Case study – cable management in a school refurbishment | Centaur

We find out more about how Centaur’s cable management solutions were used on a school upgrade in Cornwall.

Originally opened in 1954, Tretherras secondary school in Newquay achieved academy status in 2011 and has recently had a substantial upgrade by adding 24 specialist classrooms and a multi-purpose hall. The building, named the Quay, now provides students and staff with a state-of-the-art educational building.

Main developer BAM Construction appointed the Dodd Group as M&E engineers, who in turn selected Centaur manufacturing for the supply of the uPVC cable management for the project.

Chosen for its competitiveness, ease of installation and overall pleasing aesthetic the Meridian range of three compartment dado trunking was extensively installed. The many features of the range include: adjustable internal and external bends; Cat 6 & 7 compliance; pre-pierced bases and hinged covers to assist when laying-in cables. All fittings are simply clipped on to avoid unsightly screws and a translucent protective film is then peeled off once all decorations are completed.

Centaur has been manufacturing for over 45 years from its central location in the UK and the ready availability of product and direct to site deliveries enabled the trunking to arrive without delays and only when required.

“Working directly with Centaur made the whole process of ordering and delivery very smooth and without any problems,” said Ian Teague, Project Manager for the Dodd Group.

“The Meridian itself was easy to use and the adjustable bends made installation a lot quicker. Centaur also made some special cross-over pieces which was very much appreciated as having to try and fabricate those on-site would have been very time-consuming”.
