Do you need to be ‘smart’ to use smart lighting? | ROBUS

The team at Robus ponder whether you need to be ‘smart’ to use smart lighting.

The name ‘smart lighting’ can be very deceptive. It gives the impression that setting up and using smart lighting is a very difficult and technical process, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

Take the ROBUS CONNECT smart lighting range as an example. This cloud-based smart home system transforms the way you interact with devices such as lights, sensors, doorbells, and cameras, in your home or office.

The range was designed for ease of use for the end user and can be controlled in multiple ways. One way is through the ROBUS CONNECT App where you’re able to set scenes and control devices with the press of a button.

Does the homeowner have Alexa or Google Home? If so, they can use the digital assistant and control devices through voice control. Through the use of the SWITCH CONNECT wall switch, you’re able to trigger different scenes with the press of a button. Finally, using ROBUS CONNECT automations, the user can set a device to change based on time, weather, and device status.

‘Appy days

Through the use of the App and cloud server you can create connections between any/all devices, providing full automation over how devices are used. Any ROBUS CONNECT device can be an input, an output, or (usually) both.

If a user wakes up and needs to go to the bathroom, they can connect the ROBUS PIR sensor with the GLS CONNECT so the light will come on when movement is detected. Alternatively, the user can switch a heater on with a press of a button or by voice command – simply connect the SWITCH CONNECT and digital assistant to the PLUG CONNECT.

The simplicity of use and installation isn’t the only benefit that this smart range offers, with extra features that include:

– Dimming: Control the brightness of lights at any given time.

– Grouping: Use ROBUS CONNECT devices individually or group them so they can be controlled together – by room or reason.

– Multi-user: Give control of your device to others once they have internet control.

– Schedules: You can set schedules for all ROBUS CONNECT light fittings in the home, ensuring lights will turn on/off at specified times while the owner is away.

– Energy saving: Controlling and/or scheduling devices will ensure that none are left on when they don’t need to be, saving energy.

– Security: The ROBUS CONNECT cameras and doorbell let you keep an eye on what’s happening inside and outside of the home. Images are stored in the cloud so users can look back on any detected movement.
