PE Tester Gary Fisher gets his safe hands on the T-REIGN ProSheath from Securikey.
Nothing annoys me more than being up a ladder or tower and realising I have forgotten something down below. Nobody is perfect but it helps to have a way of carrying your equipment with you to avoid the strain of multiple trips.
I have always used a tool belt to keep all my tools secure and close by but on a busy site there’s always the risk that a tool might drop and seriously injure a colleague. This is why I was intrigued by Securikey’s T-REIGN ProSheath solution.

The ProSheath is a pouch/holster which you can fit onto your trousers or belt that is designed for a set of pliers or cutters. A retractable tether with 900mm, high strength Kevlar cord is integrated into the design to ensure that any tool stored in the sheath cannot fall and injure people below.
Pros
● Good idea for safe work at height.
● Could use any tool in theory.
● Easy to carry in pouch.
Cons
● Pliers could be insulated.
● Idea could be expanded further for the trade.
Great for hobbyists
A set of pliers was provided with the set I tested. The pliers look good but feature no insulation at all. They are light weight and feature a tungsten carbide cutting edge which I probably wouldn’t rely on to cut T&E in one go. I would avoid using these on-site as they are clearly hobbyist’s pliers and would be great if you like camping or fishing. I haven’t been fishing for a while, not since the arrival of my children, but I could see where these pliers could be very useful and the tether would make sure you don’t lose them in the water.
Trade focus?
The sheath itself is the really interesting bit if you are working in the trade. It is part of a whole range of other cases and holsters in the T-REIGN range that fit conveniently on your belt or trousers and help stop items like tools, mobile phones and testing equipment from dropping. With health and safety regulations becoming more and more strict, solutions that both improve convenience and lower risk become all the more important. The ProSheath looks smart and feels reliable. If the T-REIGN range is expanded to suit more professional level tools then I think Securikey is on to a winner.
