The Electrical Safety Roundtable Above and Beyond Awards (ABA) for 2023 opened for entries on 30th October 2023, with the deadline for entries now extended to 1st March 2024.
The ABA, created by the Electrical Safety Roundtable (ESR) in the Workplace group aim to recognise and celebrate individuals and organisations who go above and beyond their legal duty and strive to enhance and improve electrical safety within the workplace.
The awards are open to all individuals and organisations with a notable interest in electrical safety and will be judged on evidence from the past 24 months. The ABA provide a great opportunity to share best practice and promote electrical safety, gain recognition, and provide clients and customers with confidence in products and services.
Categories to enter include:
- Product of the year
- Paul Skyrme Electrical Safety Initiative of the year
- Changemaker of the year
- Derek Thompson Industry Service Award
Commenting on the ABA, Paul Meenan, Chair of the ESR Workplace group said: ‘The ESR are extremely proud that these awards are ever expanding in their efforts to recognise excellence in electrical and product safety. The ABA’s are that opportunity for all in industry to be publicly recognised as making the difference.’
Charlotte Bamber who joins us as a new Judge this year said ‘I would encourage people to get involved, we can often be hesitant when it comes to shining a light on our achievements and successes. The ABA awards are so much more than simply winning an award. It’s important that we don’t just share the horror stories, but we celebrate achievements and learn from each other when something has been a success. The Above and Beyond Awards are the perfect way to do this – help gain the recognition that you or someone else deserves and remember that you could inspire or motivate others to improve electrical safety and save lives.’
Louise Adamson, electrical safety campaigner and member of the sub-group that created the awards said: ‘It’s a huge privilege to have been asked to be involved in judging these Awards and I would encourage everyone with something to shout about, to do so. I know there can sometimes be reticence to boast about successes, but this is about more than the prospect of winning an Award. It’s an opportunity to share the very best of practices, which will in turn inspire others to action, improve safety across the electrical contracting industry and beyond, and that will, ultimately, save lives.
Because still too many lives are lost each year in workplaces or because of poor working practices. Those are lives like that of my wee brother, who died at the age of 26 in an entirely preventable electrical incident. I’m committed to working every day to prevent anyone else from having to lose a loved one in an incident which could and should have been prevented.
Frank Bertie Chief Technical Officer at NAPIT says it is extremely important that we have a vehicle to showcase those companies and individuals for their endeavours to promote and enable electrical safety in the workplace. The ESR Above and Beyond Awards provide that opportunity, so if anyone you recognise as delivering the important electrical safety message to the workforce, submit an entry form for the any or all of ABA categories.
These Awards are an opportunity to share lessons learned, to work collectively to improve safety and ultimately ensure that when a loved one leaves home for work, they then go home safe and sound to their family at the end of their working day or night.’
The Above and Beyond Awards are open for entries now and close on the 1st March 2024, with Winners being announced in April.
