A pair of Rexel employees have completed their trek to Everest base camp, raising an amazing £13,870 for the Electrical Industry Charity.
The two adventurers Kate Adamczyk, Head of Branch Marketing at Rexel, and Rachel Griffiths, Head of C&I, set off from the UK alongside 11 other explorers in late September. The group successfully reached the 17,500ft high basecamp on October 10. The group undertaking the 80-mile-long journey, decided to take on the challenge to raise money for the EIC – the official Rexel UK charity.
The trek is one few get to take on in their lifetime, and the group were also one of only three to have completed the gruelling 22-mile Gorakshep to Namche leg, which took them 12 and a half hours to complete.
Kate said the experience was the best of her life: “Rachel and I took on this challenge as a way to test our minds, bodies and willpower, while raising much needed funds for the EIC and the incredible work they do for our industry. Our aim was to reach £10,000 between us but we have been overwhelmed by the support as we are now nearly at £14,000.
“When we set off, we soon realised nothing could quite prepare you for the experience we had. This trek has by far been the hardest thing I have ever done, but on our journey, we have also seen some breath-taking scenery and made friends for life with the people we met.”
Although the Everest challenge has now been completed, fundraising will continue to the end of the year in hopes of securing further funds for the EIC.
