Genlec lights up Yorkshire with £8million projects

Mechanical and electrical contractor, Genlec, has successfully delivered two major schemes in Yorkshire within weeks, representing a combined value of £8million.

The first is at the ground-breaking Hungate residential scheme in York City Centre for Morgan Sindall and their client Lend Lease comprising 101 apartments, marking one of the first private residential lettings-only scheme in the UK.

Using its team of skilled in-house electricians, the contract was carried out over a 12 month period with Genlec responsible for every aspect of the M&E installation. Achieving all targets and timescales at this £21m scheme, the project is now handed over, primed and ready for first tenants.

In West Yorkshire, a second project has simultaneously reached completion at the University of Huddersfield’s new, state-of-the-art, School of Art, Design and Architecture, the Barbara Hepworth Building.

The £30million scheme, managed by Morgan Sindall, is a five-storey facility incorporating some 7,500 square foot of floorspace, set alongside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Queen Street South. The 11 month M&E contract was valued at £4.3million and was completed in line with all objectives.

Both schemes applied a range of modern facing construction techniques including BIM with realised ambitions to achieve strong BREEAM ratings.

Jonathan Twentyman, Managing Director of Genlec commented: “It’s fantastic to see two major schemes reach such positive conclusions. Both incredibly diverse projects in terms of design and function, there was close synergy with the broader approach, use of technology, products and applications.

“We’ve worked closely with both clients and the wider supply chain team to ensure the successful delivery of these projects, reinforcing our position as the M&E specialist of choice for large scale and complex installations.”
