Hamilton and CEF Sponsors Customer on Kilimanjaro Trek

Being a loyal Hamilton purchaser who buys his products through the Highbury branch of CEF, Dave Gilbert approached both companies to sponsor his gruelling 10-day charity climb.

Dave Gilbert from electrical contractor SCV Electrical Limited has successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the family of Christopher Hendrie, a well-respected electrician who died of bile duct cancer in 2014 at the age of 32. Gilbert climbed to the mountain’s Uhuru Peak, which stands at 5,895m, taking electrical accessories provider Hamilton Litestat and wholesaler CEF with him to generate even more funds for the family.

Gilbert was one of nine trekkers that took part in the Electrical Industries Charity ‘Challenge for a Cause’ trek in February. Being a loyal Hamilton purchaser who buys his products through the Highbury branch of CEF, Gilbert approached both companies to sponsor his gruelling 10-day charity climb. Each would make a contribution of £500 to the appeal if he completed the climb and placed a flag bearing the two company logos at the Uhuru Peak.

Gilbert completed the challenge at sunrise on Saturday 11 February and was photographed at the summit. He personally raised over £6,000 for the Hendrie family appeal, far exceeding his target of £5,000.

“I’d like to thank everyone that took part and everyone who donated, particularly Hamilton and CEF Highbury who gave so generously to this important cause.”

“The trek was an amazing yet demanding and exhausting experience,” said Gilbert. “It’s so important to give back and it means a lot to have overcome personal challenges on the mountain as we supported a family that is going through its own. I’d like to thank everyone that took part and everyone who donated, particularly Hamilton and CEF Highbury who gave so generously to this important cause.”

“What an outstanding and courageous group of people to have completed such an extraordinary challenge to raise money for the Hendrie family. We hope that the support of this donation, along with all the other fantastic contributions, helps to ease the day-to-day considerations under such difficult circumstances,” said Hamilton Sales Representative Peter Bonnington.

CEF Highbury Branch Manager Terry Arnold added: “A fantastic achievement to support a fantastic cause. Well done to Dave and the whole team for completing the trek and for raising an amazing amount for the Hendrie family.”

The Mount Kilimanjaro trek is one of several initiatives undertaken by the Electrical Industries Charity to raise money for the Hendrie family. So far, over £70,000 has been raised with the aim of hitting an initial target of £100,000.
