Never forgetting the fundamentals of Safety

MPACT Group Ltd has completed training for every electrician within the firm to ensure safety in the UK’s contracting industry.

Every MPACT Group electrician – including those in senior management – has now been fully briefed in critical changes to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Wiring Regulations, which came in to force at the beginning of 2019. The new BS 7671 (18th Edition) regulations include wiring guidance vital to authentic electrical professionals.

Dean Stevens, Operations Director of Scottish-based MPACT Group, said the company prides itself upon its ability to deliver results on time and in budget within a growing array of high-end venues. One of the latest examples was the completion earlier this year of the art deco Empire Bar & Grill within London’s iconic SSE Wembley Arena.

That project required a sympathetic approach to both the function and history of a prestigious venue, as MPACT easily came on board to meet and exceed the client’s expectations. But as Stevens points out, the cosmetics are secondary when compared to the fundamentals of public safety.

“As highlighted by Scotland’s leading trade industry body SELECT, the activities of unqualified or under-qualified electricians can and does put members of the public at risk,” he said. “Although it should be a matter of fact that anyone calling themselves an ‘electrician’ is fully compliant, the unfortunate truth is that this is not always the case.

“That is why we have made the investment to ensure that our staff – the most valuable resource within any organisation – are fully compliant with the latest regulations governing our trade. This is a vital element in our ethos of serving our employees, clients and the public.”

In addition to full training on BS 7671, all electricians employed by MPACT Group also hold CSCS cards. Although not a legislative requirement, cards from the not-for-profit CSCS provide proof that individuals on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they are employed to do.

MPACT Group operates on a strong corporate social responsibility agenda. The business has also won a number of awards within the electrotechnical industry in Scotland, most recently being named 2018’s Best Large Contractor by trade body SELECT.
