New guidance to enhance electrical safety in HRBs launch event announced: register now!

Following the appeal from Dame Judith Hackitt for industry to act now, rather than wait for Regulations to improve safety within Higher-risk Buildings (HRBs), the Electrical Safety Roundtable has created new Guidance, entitled: How to Manage Electrical Systems within Higher-risk Buildings.

The 106-page document, created for persons responsible for managing risks associated with electrical systems in HRBs, provides clear guidance concerning the management and maintenance of such.

It has been created in collaboration with over 25 organisations with expertise in this sector and it is hoped that it will encourage greater consideration for managing and monitoring electrical systems within HRBs which in turn should reduce the risks posed to tenants from electrical installations and assist with preventing fires.

The Guidance will be launched at a Virtual Event, taking place on Monday 18th October, 14:00-15:00. The event is open to all and free to attend with Martin Simmonds, Chair of the Electrical Safety Roundtable Social Housing sub-group introducing the Guidance and Jon Vanstone, Chair of the Interim Industry Competence Committee saying a few words about the value and impact of the Guidance.

Commenting on the Guidance, Dame Judith Hackitt, said: “I am very pleased to see this guidance on managing electrical systems in higher-risk buildings published. It shines a spotlight on the importance of electrical safety in higher-risk buildings and the complexity of effective management. This guidance will support the industry to review its current practices and consider how they can improve for the safety of residents.

“The group presented this guidance to my Industry Safety Steering Group and we were very impressed by the collaborative nature of this work, with multiple organisations involved. This is exactly the sort of leadership and initiative that we need to see from the industry.

“I encourage all those involved in the management of buildings to use this guidance.”
