NICEIC, the UK’s leading certification and training body for the electrical industry, is pleased to extend its congratulations to SkillELECTRIC 2024 winner Charlie Moore.
SkillELECTRIC, the premier skills competition for the UK’s electrical industry, showcasing the best electrical student and apprentice talent in the country, presented its 2024 participants with a rigorous set of practical challenges. This year, as part of a wider installation, competitors installed an electric vehicle charging point (EVCP).
As a key delivery partner for the competition, last month NICEIC delivered its EVCP installation awareness training course to the eight finalists to help them prepare for the event as well as providing them with iPads, which have become as important to an electrician’s toolbox as a drill or screwdriver. In addition, members of the NICEIC team joined the judging panel for the competition.
Given NICEIC and EAL’s shared passion for equipping engineers with the skills they need to seize the opportunities created by the net zero transition, both organisations are supporting this year’s finalists beyond the conclusion of the competition. Once the SkillELECTRIC 2024 finalists have achieved qualified electrician status, NICEIC and EAL will provide them with the opportunity to build on what they have learnt in the lead up to the competition, by offering them the chance to attend training and achieve the EAL Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points, at no cost.
NICEIC’s Technical Director, Paul Collins, said: “Charlie is a deserving winner of this year’s SkillELECTRIC competition. He demonstrated key competences that the judges were looking for including technical knowledge, attention to detail and precision.
“NICEIC is pleased to have been closely involved in the event again, which does incredible work in raising standards and championing technical and professional integrity in the electrical industry. Charlie is a fantastic example of what individuals can achieve in the sector and I hope his success will inspire other young people to consider this rewarding career path.”
Charlie Moore commented: “I am thrilled to have won SkillELECTRIC. It’s been an incredible journey and has allowed me to learn new things every day. This competition has given me great confidence in my abilities and the potential I have to develop in this industry. There’s so much to learn, especially with the introduction of new green technologies, and I’m excited to keep growing within the electrical field.”
Charlie Moore works for Norfolk-based NICEIC-certified business, Bramham Electrical Ltd. Trevor Bramham, Director, added: “We are incredibly proud of Charlie and his outstanding achievement at this year’s SkillELECTRIC competition. This win is a testament to Charlie’s dedication and hard work, it reflects the value that our company places on learning and development and the importance of competitions like SkillELECTRIC in recognising top talent within the electrical sector.
“Charlie’s win is in no small part to both our team and Tim Burgess from the College of West Anglia, who have all taught and guided him throughout his training.”
Al Parkes, Managing Director of EAL, said: “We were delighted to jointly present the SkillELECTRIC UK finalists a prize with the NICEIC. It was great to see this year’s entrants showcase their skills and push the boundaries of what can be achieved in electrical engineering. As the leading awarding organisation for engineering and building services qualifications, we proudly support SkillELECTRIC, which helps set high standards for future professionals.
“Together with the NICEIC, we celebrate the remarkable talent shown by Charlie and the other finalists and the essential role they will play in shaping the future of our industry.”
Richard Westwood secured second place whilst third place was awarded to Jonathan Gough with the judges commending both of them, as well as the rest of the finalists, for exemplifying a high standard of work during the competition.
