NVC Lighting Specified for Iconic Brighton Development

A landmark scheme to transform part of Preston Road in Brighton into a residential quarter featuring innovative and high-quality properties is underway.

Construction work is continuing at One Preston Park, which has seen Anston House, once described as ‘Brighton’s ugliest building’ and derelict for more than 30 years, replaced by three towers to accommodate 229 new homes.

The new development includes a superb collection of 1, 2 and 3-bed apartments, communal workspaces on the ground floor, underground parking and landscaped areas surrounding the development for residents to enjoy.

As part of the project, Ark Mechanical and Electrical Services (part of the JRL Group) has been appointed to undertake the complete mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) solution.

The company, one of the UK’s leading M&E contractors for large complex residential projects, have specified NVC Lighting’s range of quality and value-driven LED lighting solutions for all amenity spaces, from the corridors and stairwells, the communal workspaces, the underground car park, external areas and to meet emergency lighting requirements.

Grant Bibby, Electrical Project Manager for Ark M&E, said: “The One Preston Park development is completely revitalising a once derelict part of Brighton into a thriving residential area, with quality homes and landscaped surroundings that promote well-being and a real sense of community.

“A crucial element of creating this vision was the quality of the lighting used in the buildings and the external areas.  The right lighting offers a multitude of benefits to both residents, visitors and the environment, not just from a visual comfort and well-being aspect, but also for safety and security.

“Another key part in specifying the lighting for this project was the overall sustainability of the building.  LED lighting is one of the most energy efficient solutions for this type of development, offering significant energy savings and helping reduce energy consumption.

“We specified NVC Lighting because of its first-class service offering and the quality and cost-effectiveness of its products.  The company and its team have supported us every step of the way, ensuring all products were delivered when we needed them to meet strict project deadlines through REXEL, our local wholesaler.

“NVC Lighting’s products provide the performance, energy savings and aesthetics of a premium brand, but at a much more competitive price point.  This makes them an extremely attractive proposition.  This, coupled with the fact that they are simple to install and come with a 7-year warranty as standard meant they’ve ticked every box for us on this project.”

One of the main products supplied by NVC Lighting for One Preston Park is its MIAMI IP65 downlight fittings.  The MIAMI is fitted with a GU10 lampholder so that the installer can fit the lamp with the wattage, beam angle and colour temperature of their choice.

James Townshend, Head of Major Projects at NVC Lighting, commented: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been specified and appointed by Ark M&E as its sole supplier of LED lights for this project.

“Our MIAMI range offers a sleek and modern aesthetic, adding to the contemporary feel of an apartment building, whilst also providing a space saving, energy-efficient and long lifespan solution.

“For contractors installing hundreds of fitting a day, MIAMI also includes a number of installer-friendly features.  Piano key terminals mean no screwdriver is required and loop-in/loop-out terminals mean no additional junction is required.  The product also includes four poles, so contractors can fit a permanent live, which is essential for emergency lighting.  Waste disposal is also limited on-site for installers as the MIAMI contractor packs come with 10 fittings in one pack as standard.”
