Glamox supplies energy-efficient, maintenance-free LED floodlights for well stimulation vessel

Global LED lighting specialist Glamox has supplied energy-efficient LED floodlights for Island Patriot, a well stimulation vessel. As part of a recent renovation, the vessel’s conventional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) luminaires were replaced with the FL70 range of LED floodlights from Glamox.

Originally developed as a platform supply vessel, Island Patriot was later converted to a well stimulation vessel. It was built at Ulstein Verft in 2005 for Island Offshore. The vessel was later sold to Stimwell in Esbjerg, Denmark, but is still operated by Island Offshore Management.

Frequent replacements of light sources and increasing difficulties in obtaining spare parts were the primary reasons why the vessel needed a complete renovation of its onboard conventional HPS lighting.

The Glamox lighting solution provided for Island Patriot consists of 26 x FL70 LED floodlights, which are designed using the latest COB LED light source and LED driver technology, providing a virtually maintenance-free lighting solution. The floodlights provide high light output, durability and a long system lifetime. The floodlight design and components, including a powder-coated anodised seawater-resistant aluminium housing, are optimised for harsh marine and offshore conditions, ensuring a long lifetime of 100,000 hours. The replacement of the conventional HPS luminaires was straightforward, as the new FL70 floodlights fit on to the same brackets used by the HPS luminaires.

The FL70 LED floodlight is available in 7 different beam angles of 18, 27, 39, 60, 80, 100 and 120 degrees. To make installation quick and easy, the FL70 can be connected in groups of three, with one luminaire providing power to the other two, i.e. only one of the three luminaires requires a junction box. Multiple connection options and an adjustable bracket further simplify the mounting and operation of the floodlight. The FL70 floodlight is designed to operate in ambient temperatures between -35°C and +55°C. The seawater-resistant aluminium housing provides a protection rating of IP66/67.
