Atkore has introduced Defender™, a superior performance system that can greatly extend the life of metal products when used as an alternative to hot-dip galvanised.
Available on metal framing, cable management systems and accessories in the proven Atkore Unistrut range, the product is designed for demanding and mission-critical applications in extreme outdoor environments, including electrical infrastructure, solar panel framing, rooftop supports and on highways. It provides superior protection against corrosion, helping to extend service life and reduce maintenance and labour costs.
Rust can form on the cut end of traditional hot-dip galvanised solutions, compromising system integrity and requiring remedial action. In contract, Atkore Defender™ incorporates innovative ‘self-healing’ properties, which eliminate the need to paint cut ends at the job site. The finish can last up to three times as long before reaching the five per cent red rust failure criteria, ensuring the Unistrut system specified can withstand the rigours of the application.
Rigorous testing, including 1000 hours of continuous salt spray testing, ensure that the product is formulated to withstand high humidity, salt-laden marine environments and other extremes of temperature.
When compared with pre-galvanised systems, typically specified for the least harsh environmental conditions, Atkore Defender™ can deliver up to twice the longevity, with up to 100 years’ performance. Against hot-dip galvanised solutions in the harshest conditions, which typically deliver around four years of reliable performance, the product can provide up to 30 years’ longevity.
