In this three-part special, we’ve been profiling three electricians and their problem solving solutions. The third and final installment features Barry Shaw’s Speedy Sparky.
The brainchild of Hertfordshire-based electrician Barry Shaw, the Speedy Sparky is another one of those “I can’t believe no-one’s already invented it” ideas.
Put simply, the product combines all the components needed to position sockets correctly in one easy to-use tool. By using the Speedy Sparky, electricians can install sockets five times faster, freeing up time to take on the next job on the list.
Talking about the inspiration behind the product, Barry says: “I’d been completing the first-fix on a run of three-storey townhouses, replicating the same routine of work across all the properties. Early on in the job I realised that if I could quickly mark where each socket should go, then I’d be able to ensure they were all straight, spaced evenly and uniform with each other.
“I went out that night to the local electrical wholesaler to buy, what I thought was quite an obvious and simple tool, but none had anything of that kind. It was then that the Speedy Sparky concept was born.”
