Product Test: BG Wi-Fi Extender Socket

Sockets, something everybody has in their homes, kitchens or offices, but they all only really have one use…. until now!

BG (British General) has shaken up the traditional way we look at sockets by releasing an innovative new product – a twin socket which is designed to enhance yours or your customers’ Wi-Fi coverage.

This means, for example, if there is a particular room in which the Wi-Fi doesn’t seem to work or is particularly sketchy then here’s you’re solution. Additionally, the product also features a 2.1A USB point which is ideal for phone charging.

The unit looks good and should fit seamlessly with the existing decor. It even has little plastic bits that hide the screws to the back box.

The specifications are also impressive as the Wi-Fi Extender Socket runs at N-300 Mb per second, meaning the speed of your transferring data will improve. It connects to all types of Wi-Fi routers that I know of and it is relatively straight forward to connect, given that there are several ways to do it.

How did it perform?

I’ve put the Wi-Fi Extender Socket to good use in an outhouse so, as you could imagine, the original Wi-Fi signal was very poor. After connecting the BG socket, however, the signal improved significantly, which I have to say really impressed me. I’m now looking to get one fitted in other areas of the property where we experience a particularly poor signal.

In conclusion, if you or your customers have a room or space that suffers from poor Wi-Fi I’d definitely recommend getting a couple of these sockets fitted. They’re also a great ‘up-seller’ for those occasions where you’re doing domestic work and spot the need for a customer.
