For this product review Kev Young of Chichester Electricians give us his verdict on the C.K Stubby VDE Screwdrivers.
When I was asked if I’d like to review the new range of stubby VDE screwdrivers from C.K Tools I jumped at the chance as I’ve felt for a long time that there’s a gap in the market for this sort of product.
We all know that people like installing furniture/boilers/machinery in front of sockets and switches (despite our best efforts in second-guessing their intentions) and there comes a point when we have to change the fitting for whatever reason. This is where access with your screwdriver becomes a problem. There are numerous limited access drivers and stubby screwdrivers on the market but none that I’ve used or come across have been insulated, which brings with it the associated risk.
C.K’s new range of VDE approved stubbies help to overcome this issue. As the range consists of slotted 4.0 and 5.5mm, Pozidrive No.2 and a slotted/Pozi Mod.2 variations, there’s more than enough to cover most eventualities.
Constructed from a hard plastic, the handles have an octagonal base and flat sides with chamfered edges which stop it rolling off of most work surfaces. The flats also aid turning of the screwdriver with your fingers. Furthermore, the end is additionally chamfered so it doesn’t dig in to the palm of your hand. Slimline shafts constructed from premium quality chrome vanadium steel allow access to recessed fittings and the tip style is clearly marked on the end of the handle for easy identification.
In conclusion
Having these new stubby screwdrivers in my possession has certainly made life easier when undertaking a number of tasks that offer very little room for the operator, such as retrofitting accessories in awkward places.
They’re very good quality and I’d have no hesitation in recommending that you put them on your next tool shopping list. I believe that C.K has also recently introduced a brand new four pack of the screwdrivers, so even more choice for the operator.
