Here we find out how Product Tester, Kelly Vincent, got to grips with the Draper Plus 9-Piece VDE Torque Screwdriver Set.
I use a torque screwdriver about two or three times a week. Although it’s not part of my everyday kit, I still want something durable and easy to use. So when I was asked to test the Draper Plus 9-Piece VDE Torque Screwdriver Set, I was mainly looking for something that I could easily get to grips with.
“I like the smooth grip and variation of blades. Also, when a torque limit is reached, it makes a clicking sound so that you don’t under or over screw terminal screws.”
In the beginning I found it tricky to use the settings. Now that I’ve used it a couple of times, I understand how to adjust the settings and find it easy to use. For that reason I wouldn’t recommend using this screwdriver until you’ve had enough time to fully test it and understand how to use it.
The kit I received came with a torque screwdriver, calibration certificate, eight interchangeable blades and a storage roll. According to the manufacturer it can be used for up to 1000 volts AC or 1500 volts DC. However, I haven’t had to use it for volts this high. It’s also resistant to chemicals, oils and most solvents.
What I like most about the screwdriver is that it’s perfect for my carrying pack and easy for me to find in my van. I like the smooth grip and variation of blades. Also, when a torque limit is reached, it makes a clicking sound so that you don’t under or over screw terminal screws. So I think it’s perfect when you have to be precise to stay within the latest wiring regulations. Best of all – and the reason I’m recommending it – I’ll never worry about over tightening an MCB or main switch again!
