ROBERT GRAY: INTERESTING SETUP GOING ON HERE…
A periodic inspection and testing of an electrical installation is subject to limitations, within Section D of an EICR, where concealed cables in the fabric and containment have not been inspected.
With this type of installation, it may not be obvious or may not be considered to investigate the external parts of the property to inspect any accessories or wiring systems. This setup would appear to be for a βsmartβ television installation where power, HDMi and data cables are needed at the rear of the TV, so the client would not appreciate internal room concealment or surface containment.
The solution installed has several issues:
β’Β Mini trunking is not designed for exterior installation with no IP, Ultraviolet protection.
β’Β The surface pattress boxes with blank plate gain are not designed for this use.
β’Β There is a lack of mechanical protection especially with access to R bins, and evidence of damage to the pattress boxes.
β’Β Potential clash with band I and II cables.
Thereβs also an additional cabling installation, in the top right of the image, for an upstairs room with lack of protection for the cables. Thereβs a risk of ingress of moisture into the internal electrical accessories due to the incorrect installation methods, and this would include cables passing through the cavity void which may include some form of insulation material which can affect the cable rating or the insulation. Care must be taken when the periodic inspection is carried out, as in the summer the evidence of water ingress may not be present.
Therefore, the classification code would be a C3, Improvement recommended unless there was evidence of moisture within the internal accessories or back boxes. In the latter case it would attract a C2, Potentially dangerous urgent remedial action required.
