Made 2 Measure: Is there a solution to fix the hassle of testing lighting circuits? | Megger

Working on your own? Need some technical advice? Don’t know where to turn? The technical team at Megger answers the latest technical query from end users.

YOU ASK:

WHEN I’M WORKING ON AN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION, TESTING THE LIGHTING CIRCUITS CAN BE A REAL HASSLE. OFTEN, I HAVE TO DISMANTLE THE FITTING OR AT LEAST THE LAMP HOLDER TO GET TO THE TERMINALS. CAN YOU SUGGEST A BETTER SOLUTION?

MEGGER SAYS:

Yes we can. You need the new Megger LA-KIT lamp adaptor set, which can be used with almost any type of installation tester to carry out insulation, continuity and loop impedance tests. The kit includes five adaptors, each matching one of the most common types of lamp holder: B22 and B14 bayonet fittings, E27 and E14 screw fittings and GU10. To connect to the lighting circuit all you do is take the lamp out and plug in the adaptor in its place. The adaptors have two sockets that accept standard 4mm test plugs and the kit even comes with a standard 4mm to 4mm set of test leads. The sockets for the E27 and E14 adaptors are colour-coded to show polarity, but this isn’t possible with the other adaptors as they can be reversed in the lamp holder. The items in the kit are supplied in a durable carrying case, ensuring storage is a breeze. The kit will save you a lot of time and trouble and, when you’re working at height (with only two hands) it will allow you to work safely.
