NOW THAT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE BUYING ELECTRIC VEHICLES, I’M OFTEN BEING ASKED TO FIT AND MAINTAIN EV CHARGE POINTS. WHAT SORT OF TEST EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

It’s certainly important to ensure that EV charge points are correctly installed and maintained. If you’re going to carry out this work, you first need to make sure you’re familiar with all the relevant charge point testing standards. For test equipment, there’s good news: you may already have most of what you need, as modern multifunction testers like the Megger MFT1741+ support EV charge point testing. However, there is one extra you will need to buy, and that’s an EV charge point adaptor. This links your tester to the charge point and simulates the connection of a vehicle, which is necessary for carrying out the tests. Megger has just introduced the EVCA210 adaptor which, in conjunction with a suitable instrument, will let you test the functioning and safety of all AC Mode 3 EV charge points in accordance with the IEC/EN 62851-1 and IEC/HD 60364-7-722 standards. As well as being compact, easy to use and portable, the EVCA210 adaptor is supplied with not only a Type 2 connector, but also a Type 1, which is important if you want to test Type 1 plugs on tethered leads. The EVCA210 will make a very useful addition to your test kit!
