Prysmian launches Draka data cable

Prysmian has launched its new Draka UC400 23 Category 6 U/UTP LSHF D65 B2 data cable that is fully compliant with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

The cable from Prysmian has a Euroclass B2 fire performance rating and fully Category 6 / Class E compliant electrical performance for full CPR compliance.

CPR requires third party testing of cables with a Notified Body for heat-energy content, plus spread of fire, smoke, acidity, heat emission and droplet formation (burning drops of plastic that spread fire).

This is to ensure they meet fire performance requirements laid out in the harmonised European standard for cables in construction works subject to reaction to fire requirements under the CPR (EN 50575).

The new cable is compact, with a high degree of flexibility for easy installation, whilst it’s claimed to have no difference in handling performance to the existing high density D-rated cables.

The data cable is only available in reel format, to ensure that B2 Euroclass rating is maintained.

A white paper ‘A Safe Step Forward – the Challenges of Determining the Reaction to Fire Characteristics for Data Communication Cables’ has been released by Prysmian covering the subject in more detail.
