Swarfega’s 2023 Toughest Trade title goes to farmer Andy!

After a hard-fought battle on social media, farmers have been declared Swarfega’s Toughest Trade for the third time, with farmer Andy Ransome emerging as the 2023 winner.

The competition, launched in February, invited tradespeople from across the country to submit photos of their most challenging tasks for a chance to be recognised as Swarfega’s Toughest Trade.

In the end, it was Andy Ransome who took the title for farmers across Britain, following wins for the trade in both 2020 and 2022. A feat which earned him a £200 Amazon voucher and an acre’s worth of respect. Andy’s entry saw him splattered in slurry – just a regular day’s work for our farmers!

Speaking on his win, Andy said: “I’m thrilled to have flown the flag for farmers this year to prove we really do have the Toughest Trade!”

The competition received more than 67 entries from a range of trades, with tree surgeons making up the largest group of entrants, followed closely by electricians and mechanics. Sewage workers, painters, and welders also vied for the title, creating lively social media debate filled with friendly banter between the various trades.

With strong entries across the trades, choosing a winner was certainly a challenge! Here are the runners up:

  • Voted second place was welder Alex Cox, whose volatile entry certainly sparked excitement!
  • Voted third was Blake Yeomans with the fearless job of painting pylons some hundreds of feet in the air.
  • And coming in fourth place was tree surgeon Dell Wray and his mid-air balancing act on a tree branch!
