Double Success For NES in Business of the Year Awards

A leading electrical firm with ambitious growth plans and a commitment to developing its own talent has scored a double success at a national business awards ceremon.

NES (North Electrical Services) Ltd, which has bases in Inverness and Elgin, was shortlisted after a public vote for Business of the Year for firms with under 100 staff in the Scottish SME Business Award.

Today (17 April) NES came out on top of seven finalists in the north section of the award and went on to beat four other regional winners to take the national title for the category.

NES Managing Director Kenny Duncan said: “We are thrilled to have won these awards against such strong competition. We are still a young company and being recognised nationally for our achievements to date and our plans for growth is a great reward for our staff.”

The company has more than quadrupled its permanent workforce to 60 since setting up in 2012 and is now targeting another four-fold increase and a move into the central belt. It plans to grow the workforce to 250 and increase its turnover from between £3 million-£4 million to around £12 million-£15 million.

NES’s services include industrial and commercial electrical installation and maintenance works, control and instrumentation, electric motor repair, overhaul and rewinding for clients including schools, offices, commercial premises, distilleries and fish processing plants.

The company is recruiting four new apprentice electricians this year, which will bring the total number of apprentices it employs to 17.

Previous awards include Best Electrical Safety Project in 2016 and Best Use of Training category in 2015 from SELECT, the Electrical Contractors’ Association of Scotland.

Earlier this year, NES’s growing success was praised by Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP Drew Hendry in an Early Day Motion in the UK Parliament.

He said the fact that growth has been driven by a desire to create opportunities for young people and to develop staff made the firm’s progress even more commendable.
