Made 2 Measure: Is there an MFT that can perform EV charge point testing? | Megger

Working on your own? Need some technical advice? Don’t know where to turn? The technical team at Megger answers the latest technical query from end users.

YOU ASK:

MORE AND MORE OF MY CUSTOMERS ARE ASKING ME TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINTS. IS THERE AN MFT THAT CAN PERFORM THE TESTS I NEED FOR THIS?

MEGGER SAYS:

Indeed there is! The new Megger MFT-X1 multifunction installation tester has dedicated functionality for EV charger testing and is designed for use in conjunction with the Megger EVCA-210 (Electric Vehicle Charge point Adaptor). With this combination, you will be able to test charge points protected by Type B RCDs and also those protected by RDC-DDs. This test sequence is automatic and the MFT-X1 includes earth-loop impedance, protective device operation, phase sequence (where appropriate) and proximity pilot (PP) state (via the EVCA-210). The EVCA also offers a manual PE pre-test to check that there are no dangerous voltages present on the PE conductor. The EVCA is supplied with a Type 2 plug for charging points that have a tethered or panel mounted Type 2 socket outlet and also a Type 1 connector/adaptor as used, for example, on Mitsubishi PHEVs. This means it can be used for testing all EV charge points that are currently in use in the UK (except for specialist fast chargers), as part of the installation checks and for maintenance purposes. In short, you can be sure that the MFT-X1, together with an EVCA-210, will meet all of your EV testing requirements.
